Meet Fester

Fester is the child-like, enthusiastic brother of Gomez Addams and the uncle of Wednesday and Pugsley Addams. In the musical, Fester is the comic relief who believes in love, and that influences how he acts as the narrator of the story.

He will be played by seniors Anthony Hughes and Dylan Finnell.

Hughes has been in two other musicals at BPHS. He played Big Jule in “Guys and Dolls” his freshman year and Sebastian in “Cinderella” in his junior year.

He has also been in one play at BPHS his sophomore year where he played Schroder in “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

When asked about his feelings on playing Fester, Hughes said, “I’m excited to play Fester because I like the song he sings, and I usually play villain characters, so it will be fun to play a comedic character.”

He has performed in shows at IMS as well. Along with musicals, Hughes is a member of Top 21, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, and drumline.

“Fester is such a fun character, and I look forward to understanding the character better throughout the practices and performances. There is so much to embrace in this character, be it the voice or the baldness, and I can’t wait to jump right in,” Finnell said.

When Finnell found out the news that he received the role of Fester, he enthusiastically shaved his head to look like him.

Finnell has done three other musicals at BPHS. He was Benny in “Guys and Dolls” his freshman year, Leaf Coneybear in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” his sophomore year, and Jean-Michel in “Cinderella” his junior year.

He has also participated in plays at BPHS all four years of high school. He played Tony Molinero in “Fireworks On The Fourth” his freshman year, Charlie Brown in “A Charlie Brown Christmas” his sophomore year, Tony Kirby in “You Can’t Take It With You” his junior year, and Jack in “The Last Christmas Radio Show” this year.

Finnell has also performed in numerous shows at South Park Theatre and IMS as well as being a member of Top 21.

Finnell said: “I’ve played many different roles throughout my time at BPHS, but there is one common thread connecting them all: their sense of humor. I normally am privileged to play a comic relief character, and Fester is no exception. I think I’ve brought something different to each character I’ve played, and I hope to do the same with Fester.”

Finnell and Hughes are both over the moon to play Fester in the spring.
