The varsity wrestling team, currently ranked seventh in the state of Pennsylvania, captured its second consecutive section title this season by defeating section foes Peters Township (54-18), Mt. Lebanon (57-11), Baldwin (64-6), and Upper St. Clair (49-15). It marks the program’s fourth section title in school history.
The Hawks also finished second at the 2025 Allegheny County Championships on Jan. 18.
A strong senior class has guided the Black Hawks. Ethan Higgins (152 pounds) eclipsed the 100-win threshold on Dec. 29. Higgins, who currently owns 110 career wins and is ranked 13th in the state, holds a 27-6 record this season and has served as the anchor of the Black Hawk lineup.
Senior captain Aden Stout (139 pounds), ranked 22nd in the state, is having a fine season with a 22-9 record and serves as the team’s vocal leader.
Heavyweight Mikey Gibson, ranked 17th in the state, possesses a 22-10 record, while Allegheny County runner-up Seth Miller (133 pounds) is ranked 16th in the state with a record of 20-9 including a team-best 13 technical falls.
Senior Hunter Goelz (215 pounds) is 19-11 with a team-leading 12 pins, while senior Ryan Walsh (189 pounds) continues to dominate his competition with a 7-1 record.
Senior Mak Miller (172 pounds) has tallied 12 wins and is a stalwart in the upper weights.
Last, senior Jaden Palombine (114 pounds) has finally returned to the lineup following a long medical rehab, which will help bolster the lineup heading into the playoffs.
A quartet of sophomores has been instrumental to the team’s success this season, spearheaded by Allegheny County Champion Pierce Reinhart (121 pounds), who is 22-5 and ranked 19th in the state.
Allegheny County silver medalist Colton Fisher (127 pounds) is 17-8, Caleb Crawford (145 pounds) is 15-9, and Ian Bucheli (160 pounds) is 21-12.
Bethel Park has drawn the No. 4 seed in the WPIAL team tournament and will host on Wednesday night Jan. 29.
The Black Hawks will meet the winner of Monday’s Belle Vernon/Butler dual at 6 p.m., and then at 7:30 p.m., they will grapple with the winner of Canon-Mac and Norwin in the quarterfinals.
The WPIAL semifinals and championship will occur on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Peters Township High School.
