Cami Fisher battles Mt. Lebanon’s Cunningham in the section singles finals on Sept. 14.

It looked like a Bethel Park- Mt. Lebanon dual on the tennis courts on Sept. 14.

Freshman Cami Fisher was fighting for a section title against Mt. Lebanon’s Sophia Cunningham (senior) while senior Lily Sierka was scuffling with Lebo’s Jackie Tang (sophomore).

On a sunny, 70-degree afternoon, Fisher settled for silver after a hard-fought battle (6-4, 2-6, 7-6) while Sierka captured third (6-7, 6-3, 7-5).

Both girls qualify for the WPIAL singles tournament.

For both girls, it was an impressive road to the finals.

Fisher won 10-2 over Presley Vennum from South Fayette, 10-1 over Autumn Vogel from Canon-Mac, and 6-2, 6-0 over Jackie Tan of Mt. Lebanon.

Sierka won 10-1 over Francesca Mollenauer of Canon-Mac and 10-0 over Keiran Moorhead of Peters, before falling to Cunningham 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals.

WPIAL singles action begins Wednesday, Sept. 20 at BPHS with finals occurring on Thursday, Sept. 21 at North Allegheny.
