Hawks advance to 2-1 with gritty win over Rams
In the home opener, the Black Hawks defeated Pine Richland in 10 innings at Purkey Field on Monday, March 27.
The Hawks started their ace Evan Holewinski on the wet Monday afternoon. He did not disappoint, going seven innings and allowing two unearned runs.
With the game being tied at 2 after seven, the ball was handed to Sebastian Schein to relieve Holey. Schein put up a scoreless eighth and ran into trouble in the ninth giving up three runs. However, a clutch 3-run home run by Evan Holewinski would tie the game back up 5-5.
Junior Jack Edner came in to relieve Schein, throwing a scoreless 10th, and striking out two.
Sophomore Ryan Petras came up clutch in the bottom of the 10th, hitting the game-winning single to secure the win.
Holewinski and Petras highlighted offensively for the Hawks. Holewinski went 3-5 with 4 RBI and Petras went 4-6 with the game-winning RBI.
Next up, the Hawks face the Seneca Valley Raiders. It is expected to be a tough matchup, with Seneca Valley being at the top of 6A. Senior Evan LeJeune will start on the mound.
