Baseball team finishes opening week 1-1 after loss to Seneca Valley
The Hawks’ undefeated season was spoiled Friday as Bethel Park fell to the Seneca Valley Raiders (0-0, 1-0) 6-3.
Starter Evan LeJeune ran into trouble early, allowing four runs in three innings. LeJeune showed his clutchness by pitching out of some bases-loaded jams with minimal damage and giving the Hawks’ offense a chance.
The offense struggled, however, loading the bases in the second inning with one out and not scoring. The bats came alive in the third with a clutch two-run single from senior catcher John Chalus and an RBI single from senior right fielder Evan Holewinski.
Sophomore Dylan Paul would come into relief for LeJeune in the fourth, putting up a scoreless inning and allowing two runs in the fifth. Junior Jack Edner came in to pitch the sixth, putting up a 1-2-3 inning.
Leading the offense was Holewinski, going 3-3 with an RBI. Also, recording hits in the game were Seniors Jason Nuttridge, John Chalus, Nathan Vargo, Lucas Lybarger and Gianni Magnotti.
The Hawks’ (0-0, 1-1) next opponent will be Pine Richland (0-0, 4-0) on Monday. Ace Evan Holewinski will start the game.
