The Lady Hawks basketball team came into Monday night’s game on a tough four-game skid.

After tough losses to teams like Baldwin and Mt. Lebanon, the team needed a big win against conference rival Peter Township. They lost 79-71 to the Indians earlier in the season.

The Hawks used the motivation to jump out to a 25-22 lead with 3:00 left in the first half. The scoring was headed by sophomore Ella Sabatos with 7 points.

The Hawks then started to separate from Peters jumping out to a 45-38 lead with less than 2:00 remaining in the third quarter.

But Peters didn’t go away quietly cutting the lead to just one point going into the fourth.

In the end, the Hawks gutted out a victory defeating Peters Township with a final score of 61-60.

Mary Boff once again lead the Hawks in scoring putting up 16 points, but she was also supported by Sophia Nath and Sadie Orie with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Senior Sophia Nath commented on the game saying, “Tonight’s win was a team effort. We played for each other and capitalized on each other’s strengths.”

The Hawks now move to 6-10 on the year and are fifth in their section with a 3-5 record. Their next contest will be Tuesday, Jan. 31 against another conference opponent in Canon-McMillan.
