Try out for cheer
In preparation for a brand new school year, tryouts for the Bethel Park cheerleading squads start the week of June 1-June 5!
Be prepared for the new cheer season by learning information for your grade about what is required for tryouts.
For all grade levels: Everyone must learn the Level 1 Cheer “Raptor Power” prior to tryouts.
For grades 7th-8th: Middle School must learn the Level 1 Dance “Turn It Up.”
For grades 9th-12th: High School must learn the Level 2 Dance “Bring the Fire.”
This year, no sideline cheers are required to learn for tryouts.
For tryouts, every cheerleader is required to perform jumps and tumbling.
Here are the dates for tryout practices and tryout day:
- June 1- Parent meeting from 5-6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. This is for all grades interested in trying out. Competition open gym will take place after the parent meeting from 6-8 p.m. in the South Gym. Everyone in grades 9-12 is encouraged to come if interested in Game Day or Mat Routine.
- June 2- First day of tryout practice! Middle school practice will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. in the South Gym. High school practice will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. also in the South Gym.
- June 3 – Second day of tryout practice! Middle school practice will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. in the South Gym. High school practice will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. also in the South Gym.
- June 4 – Third day of tryout practice! Middle school practice will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. in the South Gym. High school practice will take place from 7:30-9 p.m. also in the South Gym.
- June 5 – Tryout Day! Tryouts will start at noon in the South Gym. Warmups will take place in the Main Gym. *This is a CLOSED tryout. Arrival time will vary for each team/grade level. Middle school will begin the tryout day followed by seniors, juniors, sophomores, and then finally freshmen.
Important note: Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for tryout practice days and the day of tryouts!
Here are the following requirements for attending tryout practices and the day of tryouts:
- You must read and sign the following forms and return them to one of the designated coaches by June 2. If the forms are not returned, you will NOT be allowed to participate in tryouts!
-Tryout Practices Attire
- T-shirt/tank top
- Shorts
- No Nike Pros (unless worn underneath of shorts)
- Tennis shoes
- Hair pulled back
- NO crop tops
- NO jewelry
- No long nails/clean nails
-Tryout Day Attire
- Solid white T-shirt (tucked into shorts)
- Solid black shorts (no Nike Pros/Spandex, unless worn underneath of shorts)
- Do not roll your shorts.
- White/black tennis shoes
- Hair pulled back off face in a mid-ponytail (no flyaways)
- NO tank tops
- NO jewelry
- NO long nails/clean nails
You must know that you cannot try out for any team that you want; there are certain rules that apply to different grades. The varsity game-day squad only allows students in Grades 11-12 who meet requirements. The JV game-day squad only allows students in 9-10 grade who meet requirements. The middle school cheerleading squad only allows students in 7-8 grade who meet requirements. The competitive spirit squad only allows students in 9-12 grade who meet requirements.
There is no set number of spots on any teams.
Any and all skills the athlete tries out with will be used the rest of the year.
Cheerleaders who were dismissed from the squad or quit may be eligible to try out again after one full season has been completed.
Temperatures will be taken before each gathering and event for cheer. All COVID-19 regulations apply and good health is mandatory.
Varsity/UCA-trained and certified judges will be present to score and aid the coaching staff in the selection of the teams.
