Following the first-ever virtual draft in NFL history, our Pittsburgh Steelers added six new players to their team.

Early on in the 2019 season, the Steelers traded away their first-round pick to acquire safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins. As a result, they did not have a pick in the draft until the second round.

With their first pick in the second round, the Steelers selected Chase Claypool out of the University of Notre Dame.

Claypool was not one of the top receivers in this draft class, but he showed great potential at the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash, which is very impressive for a receiver standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 238 pounds.

In the third round, the Steelers selected linebacker Alex Highsmith out of the University of Charlotte.

Though you probably had never heard of him before he was drafted, Highsmith is an elite defender who can help the Steelers. He led the Conference USA in sacks and named a back-to-back all-conference player. He ended the season second in the FBS in sacks and has the capability to help the Steelers immediately.

The Steelers had two fourth-round picks after the trade with the Dolphins. With those two picks, they selected Anthony McFarland, Jr. and Kevin Dotson.

Though only 5-foot-8, McFarland was one of the best running backs in the Big 10. In the 2018 season, he was a few yards shy of 300 against one of the top teams in the nation. His only downside is injuries that have plagued his career.

Dotson is a 6-foot-4, 313-pound offensive tackle who has a good chance to play this season. Though he did not have a great NFL Combine, Dotson was a four-year starter and brings a fiery attitude into every play.

In the sixth round, the Steelers picked up Antoine Brooks, Jr.

The Maryland product is mainly a safety but can also play linebacker. He will probably be used mainly for special teams this season.

With their last pick, the Steelers drafted defensive tackle Carlos Davis out of Nebraska.

The 313-pound defenseman probably won’t see much playing time this year but has some upside for the future.

Though they did not get a big name, the Steelers still had a solid 2020 draft.
