Germaine Giants continue their winning ways
The coaching staff of the local CYO super team was all on the injured list during their latest win on Sunday night. Well… at least it looked like it.
In the latest edition of “dress up” from the three headmen of the Giants, they put on walking boots, biking helmets and ace bandages, and they went to work.
“One violent game of pickleball” was the rationale for the extra precaution, according to assistant coach Evan Bromley.
Hurt or not, the trio of Bromley, Kevin Kogler, and Sean McGowen led St. Germaine to their 10th win of the season.
“They had us in the first half, I’m not gonna lie, but it was great to see us come together as a team for a comeback win,” said headman Kevin Kogler.
After being hired in the off-season by GM Chris Cassano, Kevin Kogler and his team of assistants have transformed this year into a legitimate Diocese title contender, sitting as one of the top teams in the league.
The Germaine Giants have been paced all year equally by their platoon system of lineups, rotating five in and five out every four minutes. The balance of the scoring has allowed fresh legs to keep rolling onto the court and keep the energy high.
“We like to have a good time out there, and we’re definitely not in the best basketball shape, so we need to be able to utilize our deep bench before we all get too gassed out there,” shooting guard Trevor Morrison said.
The Giants are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 2. They will look for back-to-back Sunday wins for the second time this year.
