Get to know Tommy “Bones” DiRienzo

The man they call “Bones” keeps a low profile, difficult to do with all the attention he gets from the local media. He is a man of few words and that’s just the way he is.

DiRienzo has had a breakout start to his senior season, a big reason for the Hawks’ success in the first half of the season.

The senior sharpshooter is averaging an even 20 points per game and posting shooting percentages that are just absurd.

“My teammates are finding me when I have the hot hand, so all credit goes to them for sure,” DiRienzo said.

Bones is shooting 53.4 percent from the field, 47.3 percent from three, and 90.7 percent from the free-throw line.

This makes him a part of the “50, 40, 90 Club.” This club is exclusive to players who shoot at least 50 percent from the field, at least 40 percent from three, and at least 90 percent from the free-throw line. To put in perspective just how crazy that is, only seven players in the history of the NBA have accomplished that feat over a single season. Seven.

“I put a lot of work into my game in the offseason, so I’ve definitely been playing with added confidence. My teammates are finding me when I have the hot hand, so all credit goes to them for sure.”

The humble break-out star is a man of few words. If he opens his mouth, it’s probably to eat a cheeseburger or a slice of pizza from Pizza Al’s.
