College football playoffs set after Championship Week

Back in August, over 120 Division 1 college football teams had their eyes set on being in the college football playoffs.

Here in December, LSU, Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma have reached their goals of being in the final four.

LSU, or Louisiana State University, had a remarkable season. Led by fiery head coach Ed Orgeron, LSU finished 13-0 in the toughest conference in college football.

After starting 1-0, they went to Texas and beat the prestigious university by a touchdown where Heisman favorite Joe Burrow first made his mark.

A few weeks later, they took on the No. 7-ranked Florida at home and beat them by two touchdowns.

Two weeks after that, they beat the No. 9-ranked Auburn by a field goal.

Then they faced their toughest challenge: Alabama. After not beating them since 2011, they went to Tuscaloosa and beat the Crimson Tide 46-41.

From there, they looked unbeatable. They dominated the rest of their opponents, including a high ranked Georgia in the SEC championship by 27 points.

Due to their fantastic play, the college football playoff committee awarded them the No. 1 overall seed.

Coming in at a close No. 2-seed was the Ohio State Buckeyes.

After head coach Urban Meyer retired following last season, first-year coach Ryan Day led the Buckeyes to an unprecedented 13-0 in the Big 10 conference.

Potentially their best team of all-time, Ohio State has three Heisman candidates.

Quarterback Justin Fields has 40 touchdowns and only one interception in 13 games.

Running back JK Dobbins has rushed for almost 2,000 yards, third-best in the country.

They go along with potential first pick in the NFL draft, Chase Young, whose defensive play has been a nightmare for opposing offenses. He set the record for most sacks in a single season at Ohio State.

They had a fairly easy road heading into October until they faced off against five ranked teams in their last eight games.

Ohio State rolled over their competition in all five of those games, winning by 24, 31, 11, 29, and 13, including their conference championship against Wisconsin.

There was some debate as to if Ohio State should be No. 1, but they ultimately ended up at N0. 2.

The University of Clemson found themselves at the No. 3 seed after finishing 13-0 in the ACC.

Due to a weak schedule, they have not been considered for the No. 1 or No. 2 spots.

Led by sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Clemson’s only close game came against North Carolina in September when they won 21-20.

Since then, Clemson is beating teams by an average of 42 points per game and looks to continue that trend.

The final team in the playoffs is the Oklahoma Sooners.

After back-to-back seasons of having a Heisman quarterback and losing in the playoffs, transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts set to make a championship run.

With Hurts at the helm, Oklahoma only fell one time this season on the road against Kansas State.

Since allowing 49 points to Kansas State, Oklahoma has only allowed 40+ points one time this season.

They defeated their rival Oklahoma State on the road and handed Baylor their only two losses of the season.

Oklahoma is set to face LSU in the first round when they meet in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, GA, on Dec. 28 at 4 p.m.

Following the conclusion of that game, Ohio State will battle Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz.

With four great teams, the college football playoffs should be nothing short of nerve-racking entertainment for football fans throughout America.
