Lady Hawks prepare to make their way through the team tunnel onto the court before their game against Peters Township on Monday, Jan. 28.

On Tuesday, Jan 29, the 9-1 Lady Hawks traveled to the 10-0 Lady Indians in hopes of clinching the section title.

The last time they played each other was Jan. 3 when the Hawks took them to OT but couldn’t get it done.

Unfortunately, despite a late push, the Hawks lost 61-46.

Peters had a strong start, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. At the half, Peters extended their lead to 31-18. The Lady Hawks came back fighting after the half, tightening the gap to seven by the end of the third. They got within three, but that was the closest they’d get to catching the Lady Indians.

The high scorers of the night were senior guard Maria Cerro with 20 and sophomore guard Olivia Westphal with 13.

“Our mindset going into the game was playing for Coach Burkes’ mom and the teammates around me,” said senior guard Maria Cerro

The Lady Hawks will travel to Connellsville (1-10) on Thursday.
