The Bethel Park competitive cheer squad brings home their second WPIAL title in the past two years.

On January 5, Hempfield Area High School hosted the 7th annual WPIAL Competitive Spirit Championships. The Bethel Park competitive cheer squad came out on top, defending their AAA WPIAL Champions title.

They won first place in the small division, beating 30 other teams. They also hit their routine, earning themselves a 96/100 in the scoring scale. This score was the highest score of the competition, beating both large and coed teams. They also got overall AAA WPIAL Champions.

The Hawks received a bid to the PIAA State Championship, where they hope to go and bring back a state title. The PIAA State Championship will take place in Hersey, PA on January 11-12.

When asked about what is needed in order for the squad to bring back the state title, senior cheerleaders Ashlyn Lutton, Gabby Miller, Kelly Shelpman, Angela Vorko, and Taylor Morosetti all agreed: “We need to keep our routine consistent, and hit.”

The competitive cheer squad will leave Thursday to head to Hershey. Good luck to the Hawks competitive cheer squad as they hope to continue their winning streak at the state level!
