Lady Hawks stop the Wildcats
The Lady Hawks defeated the Latrobe Wildcats 70-50 in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL 6-A playoffs on Friday, Feb. 23.
The Lady Hawks entered the half up 10, with a score of 38-28 and kept the lead the entire game.
Leading scorers were Maria Cerro with 19, Olivia Westphal with 17, Kam Lach added 10 points, and Emma Papalia had 9 hitting three big three’s.
“We shared the ball extremely well and when we do that, we win. We all contributed in some sort of way and our energy was high and we came ready to win,” said senior Emma Papalia.
“It was a really fun game to play in and I’m super happy for my team,” said senior Jill Acker.
The Lady Hawks advance to the semifinals and will compete against the second ranked team in 6-A the Peters Township Indians on Tuesday Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. at Baldwin.
This will be the third time the Lady Hawks and Indians have matched up. The Lady Hawks came up short against the Indians twice in section play but are looking to finally defeat them when it counts most.
The winner of this game will advance to the WPIAL 6-A Championship at the Petersen Events Center.
“We have to continue to play like we’ve been playing and we will be fine. We have to go in there with higher energy and just want it more than them,” said freshman Olivia Westphal.
