Maddie Dziezgowski leaps to complete a layup in the Lady Hawks’ game against Shaler on Feb. 9.

The girls basketball team (16-5) earned the third seed in 6-A after finishing second in their section behind top-ranked Peters Township.

The Lady Hawks will play the winner of sixth-seed Latrobe (16-6) and eleventh-seed Shaler (10-12) who play on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

The quarterfinal matchup is set for Friday, Feb. 23 while the time and place will be determined.

Senior Kamryn Lach said, “We have to take one game at a time, play together as a team, and win.”

Last year, the Lady Hawks finished second in the WPIAL behind North Allegheny. Their playoff run was highlighted by an exhilarating victory over Penn Hills in the WPIAL semifinals. Unfortunately, they lost to Penn Hills in the first round of the state playoffs.

The girls are preparing for their first playoff game. They have a closed scrimmage at 3 p.m. at home on Feb. 19. They are hosting Neshannock and Oakland Catholic.

Come out and support the Lady Hawks on Friday as they look to advance into the semifinals and move one step closer to a WPIAL championship.
