Riley Gloeckl is all smiles as she poses for a pic for the first ever “Athlete of the Week.”

The first ever “Athlete of the Week” has been awarded to freshman student, Riley Gloeckl.

It takes a lot of energy and motivation in order for someone to be such an incredible dancer, and she [Riley] has so much experience with dance because basically that’s all she’s known her entire life.

“I have been a dancer since I was three and I just have not quit since. I love it,” Riley said.

Through her many years of dance, Riley has been able to gain dance experience along with adventuring to some breathtaking places.

“My dance team traveled to Italy last year which was pretty cool. I will definitely never forget it. It was amazing!”

When asked what dance company she belongs to, Riley confidently said, “I have been going to Ruby Daugherty’s in South Park my entire life.”

Not only was her dance team able to travel to Italy, but they also came back with a win.

“We actually won the world championships!”

Not only does she constantly dance and travel with Ruby Daugherty’s, but she also twirls baton.

“I have been taking baton lessons since I was four or five years old…so about ten years.”

When asked about how she got interested in twirling, Riley said, “When I just started dancing, they offered a class that was baton twirling so I took it, and I am glad I did!

“We go to Notre Dame every year for competitions and it is so fun! I look forward to it every season.”

Although she is not certain of her career as a Majorette for the Black Hawks, she is certain that she will continue to twirl through her dance company.

“I cannot ever see me quitting dance and or twirling. They are both such a big part of my life.”

What is so intriguing about Riley’s duo talents, is the fact that she is able to balance out dance, baton twirling, traveling, and school, all at the same time, while remaining an outstanding GPA.

Riley commented, “Honestly, you can do whatever you set your mind to with some effort and some passion.”
