This year, on the first day of school, all of the seniors gathered together in the parking lot before the school day started. What was the goal? To watch the sunrise!
This tradition is called Senior Sunrise, and it’s meant to symbolize the very beginning of senior year. This is the counterpart to a very similar event called Senior Sunset, where the seniors watch the sunset together.
Senior Sunset is a fun-filled evening where all the seniors can gather and reminisce on the memories they made together over the years. The sunset, of course, represents their final high school year coming to an end.
BPHS will be having its own Senior Sunset on June 6. The event will start at 8 p.m. and will be held on the high school turf fields.
Additionally, there will be games and a movie. The attendees will be watching High School Musical 3: Senior Year, a movie that celebrates senior year and all of its traditions. The movie begins at 8:30.
Popcorn and candy will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own snacks to share and enjoy with their friends while they watch. There may be a food truck, although it is undetermined. Students are also advised to bring their own blankets and chairs, as those will not be provided.
Senior Sunset is thought to have originated around five years ago, as a response to prom being cancelled for the Class of 2020. This was an event that they created where they all got to join together and celebrate their senior year coming to a close. While created as a temporary replacement for prom, it is a tradition that has stuck for many schools, including ours.
Senior Sunset is potentially the last big get-together that the Class of 2025 will have before graduation, so if you are able to make it, stop by! This event is the perfect opportunity to connect with the entire class one last time before everyone goes on their post-high school journeys. You will get to reminisce on memories, enjoy the company of your classmates, and say goodbye to the last year of high school.
