Hot take: College is expensive.
The average cost of college per year in America is around $38,000, including tuition, books, and supplies. So it’s true, college is expensive, and it’s even one of the most expensive things an American can purchase.
This is why scholarships are so important. But it seems that many skip applying for scholarships for their own reasons. Some say the amount of many smaller scholarships can seem inconsequential, and the odds of winning a large scholarship can seem impossible.
But it is still essential to apply.
Think about it this way. Those small scholarships may seem small when compared to the total cost of a college education, but that is simply untrue. The amount may not compare to tuition covering scholarships, but small amounts can add up and end up covering a large chunk of tuition.
And somebody has to be the winner of those large scholarships that are “impossible” to win. Who knows, it could be you!
So, make sure you are applying to as many scholarships as you can. May 1 is the deadline for many local scholarships, but that does not mean it is too late to apply.
It can seem difficult to write a scholarship-winning essay in a couple of days, but with enough focus and dedication, it’s feasible. Do not let a deadline stop you from potentially earning money towards your future education.
