Class of 2020 to graduate in stadium

With safe social distancing practices

“The Hawk” proudly sits on the stadium before the Hawks football game vs. West A on Sept. 6.

Great news for BPHS seniors and families as Allegheny County will be moving into green, graduation is set in stone for Saturday, June 13.

The commencement will be held at 10 a.m. outside on the stadium field, rather than in the gym, and seniors are only allowed to bring two guests, instead of the usual six guests.

For family members and friends who cannot attend due to the aforementioned restrictions, they can watch the ceremony live on Facebook.

Allegheny County will be moving into the green phase on Friday, June 5, which means that we can proceed with an outdoor graduation ceremony while still enforcing safe social distancing practices.

Seniors are thrilled to hear that there is a real commencement.

SGA President Lily Wilson said: “I am very grateful to be able to have a real ceremony since we were not sure if it was even going to happen. I am also happy with the safety precautions that we are taking as a community to keep ourselves safe and to do our part to keep people healthy. And even though there are modifications in place, it will still be a wonderful ceremony and I am so happy I get to walk to get my diploma!”

More specific information about outdoor graduation in the stadium will be forthcoming.

OTHER IMPORTANT DATES TO JOT DOWN:

Wednesday, June 10– Mandatory graduation practice at 9 a.m. All seniors should report to the auditorium.

Thursday, June 11–  Baccalaureate service at 7 p.m. This is the annual non-denominational recognition of our graduates. The administration will send seniors the link to watch the pre-recorded program on YouTube as the event gets closer.
