Have you ever thought what the school could buy for $1.9 million dollars? Well, now you do… BPHS will be upgrading HVAC system in the summer of 2019 and be finished with the job Aug 10.

On Jan. 15, the school board had learned the estimated cost of the upgrades to HVAC, and they will have a final decision on their next meeting on Jan. 22 to see if they want to sign the contract with Trane, Inc. The new system will upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning and it will be double the cooling power of the recent HVAC system.

The original price of the system was $1.6 million, but one of the maintenance supervisors of the districts suggested an alternative upgrade to build in variable frequency drives to the system. This is where the $1.9 million comes in because to add the new upgrade will cost an additional $300,000, but it will be energy saving, considering the variable drives are presumed to make the system more capable as well as more dependable.

When the brand new high school was finally open, they started out with an undersized HVAC system from the beginning of the year. The situation is when it’s 90-degree weather, which is usually the temperature during the first couple weeks of the new school year, the current system isn’t capable of cooling the whole building adequately on the hot days.
