Cafe staff wears red on Fridays to remember everyone deployed.

Have you ever noticed that the cafeteria staff wears red every Friday? If you have, you probably didn’t know why.

“By wearing red we, as a country, are showing our support to those that risk their lives everyday so that we, as Americans, may live normal, free lives with the peace of mind that we are safe,” said Mrs. Nassan the cafe manager.”

R.E.D. is an acronym for Remembering Everyone Deployed.

R.E.D. was started at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania and came about due to the events of September 11, 2001.

A staff member Mrs. Nancy Heisler has a son in the Marine Corps Base camp Pendleton in California, Sergeant Eric Heisler. Sergeant Heisler graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2010.

“We recognize our military’s sacrifice, and they are not forgotten. Our military is standing guard 24/7  52 weeks a year. They deserve more, but we will give them our support and respect.  On September 11, 2001, our country was unified. We as a lunch staff are unified,” said Mrs. Nassan.
