Senior PowderPuff players do a little dance at the game.

The annual Powderpuff football game is the first event to kick off Homecoming Week here at BPHS. It was obvious that the Juniors dominated the Powderpuff day on Friday, Sept. 23. The Seniors stood on the courtyard tables with white masks, while the Juniors went up and sprayed them all with silly string.

However, at the game on Sunday night, the tides were turned. The Seniors scored the most points ever in a 42-14 win over the Juniors.

The game started with Ashley Burford scoring in the first 30 seconds and the Seniors went wild only for a penalty to be called on the offense for holding. The Seniors took the ball back and junior Avery Hill made the next two tackles resulting in the Juniors having the ball.

As the game continued, there was not a lot of excitement. The Juniors had a week offense and were dropping every pass. It seemed as if this game was going to be a back and forth match of whose defense would break first.

The first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

The second quarter was boring until senior Ashley Burford passed the ball to Olivia Fabus, who ran in for a touchdown with four minutes to go in the half.

Then Burford completed another pass to Sarah Steeb who brought the ball in for a 2-point conversion.

Then with two minutes left in the half, junior Emma Hoffman passed to Marissa Bruckner who then passed the ball again to Abby Joyce who attempted to run but got tackled at the five-yard line by Jackie Kent.

On the very next play, Hoffman shoveled the ball to running back Sydney Borandi who took it into the endzone for the touchdown. Hoffman faked the pass and ran the ball for the easy 2-point conversion.

The score at halftime was all tied up at 8-8. The Seniors were feeling a bit nervous while the Juniors were just filled with excitement. All of a sudden, the Juniors pushed to make the game neck and neck.

The third quarter began with every fan on the edge of their seats.

Burford passed to Jess Viehman who ran about 20 yards into the endzone. The Seniors had their lead again but missed an easy catch in the end zone on their 2-point conversion try.

Only about a minute later, Burford ran about 40 yards into the endzone for a breathtaking touchdown run.

Burford continued her dominance and passed the ball to Steeb for the 2-point conversion, which resulted in a 22-8 lead for the Seniors.

With two minutes left in the third quarter, Burford ran the ball again for yet another touchdown, but the Seniors missed the pass for the extra two points.

In the dying seconds of the quarter, junior, Emma Hoffman threw the ball to Abby Joyce, who ran it in for the Juniors second touchdown. The Juniors were cheering like crazy, even though they were getting  creamed. It looks like they won’t be getting their ¨Senior sundaes¨ tonight. The Juniors were going to need a big last quarter comeback to beat the Seniors who were winning 28-14.

Entering the final quarter of play, the Juniors were feeling nothing but a sense of defeat. Burford added to the blowout with a pass to Viehman for yet another touchdown.

The score was now 34-14; however, they did not get the 2-point conversion.

The Juniors were on offense and Emma Hoffman passed the ball, and senior, Hannah Bridge intercepted it and ran 30 yards until she was tackled.

Now that the Seniors were back on offense, Burford passed the ball to Fabus and she ran 60 yards into the endzone and scored.

The 2-point conversion was run in by Burford which resulted in a score of 42-14 with one minute left in the game. As the buzzer rang, the Seniors went wild.

This game proved to be the most points that a Bethel Park Powderpuff team has ever scored.

¨This might be the biggest blowout of Powderpuff ever,¨ said Senior in the stands, Lance Wolber.

¨This is the most embarrassing defeat the Juniors have suffered since the 2006 game where they lost 34-0,¨ said Junior in the stands, Andrew Davis.
