First BPHS Arts Festival to occur on May 30
On Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m.. the BPHS Arts Festival will occur at the High School. The Arts Festival is the first ever in the school’s history.
“The Bethel Park High School Arts Festival has been in the planning since we moved into the new building,” Mrs. Palombo said. “The old high school building was too segmented to hold a more inclusive ‘Arts’ Festival. So this year is the First Annual Arts Festival because the time and the beautiful space is just right.”
The festival will be held all throughout the school to accommodate all the different performances.
The festival will be held in the foyer, cafeteria, LGI room and the auditorium,” Mrs. Palombo said.
“We hope to have music and food outside if the weather permits.”
The festival will show different student works. These include: visual arts, music, dance and theatre performances, and other works. There will also be digital arts and pottery wheel performances and a large installation created by the Bethel Park community.
“We decided to create an Arts Festival that would include more facets of the visual arts while creating a great festival atmosphere similar to the 3 Rivers Arts Festival that would entice the community to attend,” Mrs. Palombo said. “The Art Department felt that the visual arts needed a platform to show off the talents of the Bethel Park Students, but having a high school art exhibit wasn’t enough to bring in the community.”
“The Annual Bethel Park High School Arts Festival is meant to bring awareness of all the arts to all age groups, to create a wonderful festive day where friends can meet, families can create and explore the arts together and view the art students at work,” Mrs. Palombo said.
There will also be food at the festival. Food will be prepared by BPHS students.
Admission is free to the festival.
“The festival is only as good as the people who participate and attend, so the invitation is out…..’come and join us, volunteer, participate as an artist, musician, dancer, actor, poetry reader, etc., or just attend with friends and family,” Mrs. Palombo said.
Community groups that want to be in the arts festival should contact Mrs. Palombo at [email protected].
