Cheerleaders compete in PIAA championship
This weekend, the cheer squad will jump, stunt, and tumble their way to Hershey, PA for the Varsity Competitive Spirit PIAA State Championship
The squad is competing in the medium varsity division against 41 teams. The top 12 teams move to the finals. There are four divisions including small, medium, large, and coed. The squad is led by senior captains Maura Ellsworth, Taylor Evans, and Jaime Gerst.
Maura Ellsworth is very excited and confident about the competition. She said, “We’ve been working hard all year for this competition. I have faith in my team and know we’re going to do the best we can. We’ve improved so much since our first competition and will be proud regardless.”
According to her, their biggest competition is Bishop McCort and Shaler.
Another member of the squad is senior Tori Rutherford. She said, “I’m looking forward to representing Bethel Park at this year’s high school states. This is a team that’s so dedicated to everything we do. I’m so proud to be a part of such an amazing experience. I know we will all do our best this weekend and hopefully bring home a big win for our community!”
This team is very dedicated and has worked hard this whole season. Their season does not end after states. They will be competing in Nationals in Orlando, FL, where they hope to bring home a National Title.
