Bethel Park High School is hosting a spaghetti dinner on May 5th and an ongoing bracelet sale for Tyler Parker, a junior at the High School, and his sister Katelyn, a fourth grader at Ben Franklin, who have lost both of their parents suddenly in the past year and a half.
Dr. Jansante expressed that “one of the things we do well as a school is support fellow students and the community as best we can,” and in this case that was crucial.
The bracelets are Swarovski crystal; they are Bethel Park colors and have a charm to represent the two children. Until the dinner, the bracelets are being presold to both students and faculty in any school office (including the elementary, middle, and high school). They are also being sold at school events when possible. Already there have been sales at the Police Pals Basketball game, and the High School musical. Each bracelet is $15.
“I hope that people donate, or buy a bracelet. It goes to a worthy cause,” Mrs. Piezynski explained, “we’re a family here in Bethel Park, we pride ourselves on that, so we’ve got to stick together and help each other.”
If anyone has any questions regarding bracelet sales, they can contact Mrs. Lynne Piezynski at the High School.
On May 5th there will be a dinner in honor of Tyler and Katelyn in the High School cafeteria between 3 and 7 PM. The support of the community is very important for this family; however, an insignificant amount of tickets have been sold as of now. There are tickets on sale in all Bethel Park schools at $10 for adults and $5 for students.
“It’s awesome to see the people involved in the committee do so much for this family,” secretary Mrs. Dailey noted. She has been working on the committee for awhile, and will be working the bake sale at the dinner.
With a committee of only twenty people, there has been so much accomplished. However, the fundraiser’s success is dependent upon the help of the community.
At the dinner, there will be plenty of additional entertainment, including a Chinese auction, which NHS is currently taking basket donations for. Also, musician Jayna Lininger, a former Bethel Park student who has gone on to perform in Nashville and with artist Ian Welsh in Boston, will be performing at the dinner. Everyone can come to support both the Parkers, and this local artist. The bracelets will also be available for purchase at this time.
By making a donation to the Parker family, you are supporting the future of two deserving children. Mothers Day is the weekend after the event– a day these kids no longer have the chance to celebrate. Attending the spaghetti dinner on May 5th is a great way to honor the Parker family.
“We do a lot for less fortunate countries, and drives for different situations; so, it’s really nice to be able to help out a local family that can use your support. This is a pretty noble thing to do for their family,” Dr. Jansante added.
All proceeds from the fundraiser are going to the family. All of the food and materials are donated, and all of the workers are volunteers.
Additional donations to the Parker Family can be made through the Bethel Park Activities Fund.
