In the beginning of the year, students were told that by the end of the school year there would be new laws pertaining to cell phone use in class.
Although many people did not believe that this would happen during their high school career, half a year later the district has finally approved of this proposal.
The new policy allows students to use “Student Owned Technology Devices” and Internet in class if they fill out the form, which can be printed off of the Bethel Park School District website.
The form states, “… students are permitted to use the Internet for educational purposes related to school assigned topics and are expected to exercise responsible behavior when using equipment and conducting research. In addition, students will be allowed to use their personal electronic devices for educational purposes during class at the discretion of the teacher.”
This new policy has been much anticipated for many students who felt like this policy is way overdue, but nonetheless they are extremely excited to be given a little extra freedom.
So what exactly does the new policy entail?
Well, with the new freedoms come a list of rules. students are not allowed to have their devices out without authorization from the teacher (naturally). Additionally, playing games, going on social media sites, and taking photos or videos of anyone without their permission is prohibited. There are a few others, but all of the rules are as expected.
Outside of the classroom students will be allowed to use their phones in designated zones; including the hallways, cafeteria, courtyard, and main lobby.
Overall, this much anticipated new policy will definitely be helpful to students and staff alike.
