If an outsider walked into Bethel Park High School on October 11th they might think that the students were celebrating Halloween a few weeks early this year.
In celebration of Senior Week, the underclassmen showed their appreciation by dressing up for Senior Mentor Day. The wide variety of costumes definitely made for excitement in the halls. The students who had the chance to participate were thrilled, and their enthusiasm was well displayed in the impressive costumes their mentors created.
The most popular costumes this year were definitely banana suits, babies, and sheep; however, there were a number of students whose attire shouldn’t go without recognition. The Big Bird suit worn by Dan Vater brought politics into the fun in a very clever and current way. Harrison Zelt, dressed as the Wacky inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man, wore one of the most creative costumes of the day. Likewise, Tatiana Ruzzini could hardly be recognized in her amazing Dumbledore attire. Even Shane McNabb’s Teletubby suit provided a chuckle for everyone.
No matter where you walked you were bound to be entertained. In the midst of the crammed halls you could see Zac Forsyth (dressed as Mario Kart Mario) rolling down on his tricycle. During lunch the students could catch a sumo wrestling match, or one of the many Pierogi races. If you were lucky, you may have even caught a courtyard wizard battle.
Overall, Senior Mentor Day was definitely a success. Although it was controversial amongst the staff, the students clearly turned it into one of the most fun-filled days of the year. Senior Week might be a time to honor our seniors, but it’s also a time that brings the student body together and all for a great cause! Proceeds from the program are being donated to an anti-bullying program.
Next year the students are looking forward to celebrating this day full of zany fun yet again and can promise just as much excitement!
