Should music be played every day during lunch?
During Spirit Week (Feb. 18- Feb. 22), the school is playing music during the lunch periods. This raises the question that multiple students have discussed before: Should the school play music during lunch periods every day regardless of a special reason?
“Music can have a profound effect on both the emotions and the body. Faster music can make you feel more alert and concentrate better… A slower tempo can quiet your mind and relax your muscles, making you feel soothed while releasing the stress of the day. Music is effective for relaxation and stress management.” (University of Nevada, Reno).
Not only is music a good way to relieve stress, but it also simply puts people in a good mood. When people are already in a good mood, they listen to music! When people are sad, they put on music to cheer them up! So if you’re having a good day or a bad day at school, you could always look forward to going to lunch and listening to music.
When asked about her thoughts on this topic, junior Lauren Mullen said: “I think it should be an everyday thing. It puts everybody in a good mood and makes school a happier environment altogether.”
Music makes everyone happy and brings people together! There is no doubt in my mind that music should be played every day. If you feel the same way, speak up! Go to your homeroom representative, Dr. J, PACS chairs, etc. and ask them if it is possible for this to happen.
