Should colleges be SAT/ACT optional?
A hot topic of discussion in the past couple of years has been if all colleges should be SAT/ACT optional when applying. I believe that all colleges should be SAT/ACT optional because they only show one side of a student.
Many students with high grades underperform on the SAT because the SAT is only one test in a four-year span of high school, and colleges enforce the importance of these tests way too much as one test should not determine where you do and do not get accepted. One test should not determine your future.
Another reason is that many students’ skills and personal attributes aren’t shown on the SAT because it only shows test-taking skills.
Important qualities such as determination and adaptability, which are extremely important for college and job situations, are not shown at all on the SAT.
