’80s Week: Fashion of the ’80s
Shoulder pads, bangles, and leg warmers. Many know these clothing features to be the looks of the 1980s, but there was much more to offer during the century than many people know.
You know those joggers that you might be wearing right now, or the sick Nike windbreakers you bought thrifting a few months back? Those took the spotlight in the 1980s, being popular amongst teens and young adults.
When it came to shoes, the jelly sandals you saw making a quick comeback about two years ago were highly popular. Not only this, but high-top tennis shoes were also quite popular.
As previously mentioned, joggers were very popular pants, but so were leggings. It’s clear that these styles are the cool styles today. Contrary to today, though, the pants were very baggy.
Shirts included common button ups and oversized crewnecks.
And, to conclude, nothing more iconic came out of the 1980s than the crazy patterns we see in most old photos. Geometric patterns, bright colors, and lots of experimentation shined through this century.
