The soothing song this Sunday, Jan. 11, is “Stealing Cars,” by rising artist, James Bay.

James Bay, age 25, is not only known for his famous black fedora he wears day in and day out, but world-wide known for his hit single, “Hold Back the River,” which was released in the UK in November of 2014.

“Hold Back the River” stayed on the charts at number 1 on UK’s Top 100 for three months straight and stayed in the US Top Ten for four months in 2015.

After being discovered in a small pub in his town, James started attracting massive attention due to a local posting his performance on YouTube.

Multiple times growing up, James came across an old, rusty guitar that was hidden away in a high cabinet for over fifteen years. The guitar used to belong to his uncle and then it was busy just collecting dust. When he turned 11, James went back to that same cabinet and picked the guitar up, and after that day, he never put it back down.

“I was aware that it [the guitar] was there and suddenly I really wanted to get it down. I really wanted to give it a go. It was all rusty and kinda ‘not broken, but broken,’ and that’s when I finally pulled it down and just [got] that magical feeling when you start to learn an instrument. It varies for everyone, I guess, but that was one of the moments where I thought, ‘oh wow this is incredible.’

“The first thing I tried was a CD Rom “how to play the guitar” and, oh my God, was it boring. Then I tried lessons, but I didn’t have the patience to sit in a class and wait my turn to play one chord. So yes, I taught myself.”

When James entered the music industry in early 2013, he never thought he would end up where he is today-playing in front of thousands of people almost every night all over the country.

The level of success James had reached is something he only dreamed about when he was that same young boy growing up in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, located in the UK.

James took the world on by storm as he continued to write and produce his 100%, authentic, genuine music, solemnly on his own.

When growing up with such musical inspirations like The Rolling Stones, Ray Lamontagne, Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac, James created his own style of pop-folk. He began writing down the outstanding lyrics and cords that today reach thousands of people’s hearts.

His song, “Stealing Cars” is featured on his incredible album, The Calm and the Chaos.

The song has a very soft and harmonic tone as the lyrics hit your heart hard.

“Stealing Cars” is a song is about two people going through a relationship that is not-so-stable, but still fixable.

James comments, “It’s a song from the point of view of a guy who knows his relationship is going under, but is willing to try absolutely anything for one last shot at keeping it alive.”

As the song goes “All we need is a spark / A second chance, a lifeline / Waiting up in the dark / Holding up for a search light / No I don’t know why seasons change / Or how we fell so far / Before our hearts go up in flames / Let’s go throwing stones / And stealing cars,” many can truly connect with not only James’ feelings, but his situation as well.

The first “Soothing Song Sundays” is dedicated to the long-haired Englishman, who wears black fedoras, and whose dreams came true, all because he chased them.
