On Friday, June 8, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros performed at the Pittsburgh Arts Festival, delivering a very impressive line-up.
The band started in Los Angeles when lead singers Alex Elbert and Jade Castrino met. The name Edward Sharpe was actually a fictional character Elbert created in a book he was writing. Soon after, the band expanded into ten members.
By the time the band began, the yard around the stage was filled. Considering it was a free show, one can assume most of the audience weren’t exactly hardcore fans, and probably only knew the band for their most popular song, “Home.”
Even if this was the case, I can guarantee they all left as Edward Sharpe fans.
Without a set list, the band took requests from the audience and spoke to each other between songs. From their appearance, one might wonder how the band travels from city to city without losing their keys.
Even with their chaotic approach, the band was extremely appealing. The connection made with the audience kept everyone involved. Alex Elbert danced through the crowd, pulled an audience member onto stage, and gave the microphone to multiple audience members to “tell their story.”
Every song was a gem of its own kind. The band has many unique sounds that go along with their quirky look. Anyone who has not listened to this band prior should definitely change that.
