Believe!
After losing 6-2 to Chartiers Valley on Monday, April 27, the Hawks bounced back and defeated the Colts the following day, 2-1, at Woodville Field.
This had been the Hawks’ first win since splitting their series with Peters Township in mid-April.
Contributing to this win was first baseman and outfielder, junior Michael Hladio, who had a key RBI single to score Caden Stokes in the fifth inning to tie the game 1-1.
Then, outfielder and right-handed pitcher, senior Owen Turoski, had a key squeeze bunt in the sixth inning, scoring infielder and right-handed pitcher, junior Chase White, giving the Hawks the go-ahead run.
On the mound, right-handed pitcher, senior Michael (Mike) Bruckner pitched a complete game, giving up only five hits and recording four strikeouts.
“Our game plan was to have a better approach at the plate,” said Mike Bruckner.
Their next game will be on May 5 at 4 p.m. at Purkey Field against Mt. Lebanon. It’s also Senior Night.
With the win against Chartiers Valley, the varsity baseball team has officially secured a spot in the WPIAL playoffs!
