The indoor track and field team just kicked off their season at Youngstown State University on Jan. 11 and had an impressive outcome.

Senior Martin “Marty” Devine qualified in the long jump and high jump for the Adidas Indoor Track Nationals which will take place from March 21-23, 2025 in Virginia Beach, Va.

To qualify for the event, each athlete must meet a specific qualifying standard to participate. These events include distance, sprints, hurdles, relays and so much more.

For starters, this is Devine’s first year as an indoor track and field member for the Hawks.

“My coach recommended me that I do it to try to get recruited to jump in college,” he said.

During tough training sessions, Devine thinks about his overall goals for the season.

He doesn’t really have a pre-meet routine or ritual, but he does like to try to get a lot of caffeine in his system.

“I didn’t expect much heading into the meet,” he said. “I was coming off a bad sickness and I hadn’t had any real prior jump practices.”

In the long jump, Devine placed eighth with a jump of 20′ 6.5.”

In addition to the long jump, he also placed fourth in the high jump.
