Girls tennis climbs closer to coveted WPIAL 3-A team title

The girls tennis team continues to shine as they defeated Shady Side Academy, 3-2, on Friday in the semifinals of the WPIAL 3-A team championships to advance to the finals.

Competing for Bethel Park were Cami Fisher (first singles), Lily Sierka (second singles), Katie Peterson (third singles), Emma Smith and Mackenzie Smock (first doubles) and Julia Gobbie and Cassie Sierka (second doubles).

The semifinal win also solidified the team a spot in the state playoffs.

This win was preceded by the Lady Hawks’ 4-1 win over Upper St. Clair in the quarterfinals.

They will face North Allegheny, who beat Mt. Lebanon, 3-2, in the bottom half of the bracket, in the championship match, which will be played Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College.

Should the girls win, it would be the first for Bethel Park in school history.
