After three straight losses, to 6-A teams mind you, the boys varsity football team was looking for a different result.
In their first section matchup of the season, the Hawks changed the record and defeated the Baldwin Highlanders 50-13.
The game started a little shaky for the Hawks as the Highlanders went up 7-0 in the first quarter.
Jack Bruckner got the Hawks on the board early in the second quarter after a beautiful 13-yard strike from Tanner Pfeuffer.
Instead of tying the score, the Hawks showed some boldness and went for two. Ja Vaughn Moore carried it in for two to give the Hawks the 8-7 lead.
From that point forward, the Hawks would never look back.
Ja Vaughn Moore scored again after a gritty 25-yard run to extend the Hawks’ lead 14-7.
Moore wanted more, though, and again scored the two-point conversion following the touchdown.
Jovian Smith scored the next touchdown for the Hawks from 20 yards out.
The Hawks would head into the locker room with a comfortable 22-7 lead at halftime. That being said, there was nothing relaxed about their play in the second half.
In fact, the Hawks scored 28 more points en route to a 50-13 win.
Scoring touchdowns for the Hawks in the second half were Mitch Paschl, Ja Vaughn Moore, Ryan Petras, and David Dennison.
The Hawks travel to Penn Hills (4-0, 2-1) next Friday.
