Dolan Waldo takes the foul shot in the Hawks’ game vs. Grove City Friday, Jan. 22.

The boys basketball team picked up their first win on Friday beating Grove City 51-49. This win came from a huge effort from Dolan Waldo, who had 27 points in the game and the game-winning dunk to put the Hawks up by two points with 3.6 seconds to go in the game.

When asked about the game, Dolan replied with “It was a great win.”

Waldo started the game hot scoring the first six points for the Hawks and 10 of the team’s 15 at the end of the first quarter.

Dolan ended the half with eight layups and a free throw totaling 17 of the team’s 30 at that point.

He had an and-one layup to give himself 20 points heading into the fourth quarter.

Grove City tied Bethel Park with 4:00 to go in the game, but Waldo finished another layup to put the Hawks back up by two points. He scored another layup and one more free throw to give himself 25 points.

The game was then tied with 6 seconds to go when Ben Guffey shot a corner three. The ball hit off the rim and bounced perfectly to Waldo for the putback dunk and the game-winner.

The team will look to build on this win in their game on Monday against Sharpsville.
