Opinion: Sign-Stealing ‘Stros don’t deserve 2017 World Series
Recently in the world of baseball, the 2017 World Series champs are caught in a rundown.
News recently broke that the Astros stole signs from their opponents multiple times throughout the year giving them an advantage.
In the documentary put out by the Astros after their World Series win, you can see a table being blocked by a perfectly placed towel so no one outside of the clubhouse can see the video on the TV. The Astros would also bang on trashcans within the dugout to let the players know what pitch was coming at them.
There have been talks about how the Astros should lose their World Series trophy and their rings because of this.
Former pitcher of the Houston Astros Mike Fiers said, “It’s ruining jobs for younger guys. We had a lot of young guys with Detroit [in 2018] trying to make a name and establish themselves. I wanted to help them out and say, ‘Hey, this stuff really does go on. Just be prepared.'” (ESPN)
I personally think that this is a huge level of cheating. Obviously they already received their trophy and rings so they cannot take them away, but I think there should be some sort of penalty because of this, but there is no room in the MLB for a scandal like this especially to win the championship.
