Jason Montgomery takes down the 170-pound bracket
Senior wrestler Jason Montgomery became the 7th wrestler in Bethel Park history to win the Allegheny County Tournament. The tournament took place on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20.
In his first match of the tournament, he pinned his opponent in 55 seconds. He earned another pin in the quarterfinals and a tech fall in the semifinals. He wrestled Connor Sidoruk from Baldwin in the finals and pinned him in the second period.
In an interview with Eleanor Bailey from The Almanac, Montgomery said, “The tournament was a lot of fun. I wrestled well, I was really strong, big and fast.”
Six other Hawks also placed in the tournament and earned All County honors. Hunter Kernan finished in 3rd place in the 152-pound bracket, Noah Seeberger placed 3rd in the 182-pound bracket, Luke Montgomery placed 4th in the 160-pound bracket, Riley O’Mara placed 5th at 195 pounds, Parker Loera placed 6th at 138 pounds, and Vinny Riepole finished 7th in the 126-pound class.
Because of the outstanding individual efforts, the team finished in 4th place out of 35 total teams!
The Hawks look to carry this momentum into their next match at North Allegheny on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
