The winning continues for the girls’ varsity volleyball team! This time Canon-McMillan fell to the Lady Hawks 3-1 on Thursday, Sept. 21 in an away section game.

Going into the match, the girls were unsure of what to expect from this Canon-McMillan squad. The Big Macs are known for being a strong, scrappy defensive team, but the Lady Hawks were able to handle anything that was thrown their way. In fact, their composure in tight situations and during long runs from the opposition is what proved to be the game changer in this match. However, the sets ended being closer than expected due to some unforced errors and questionable calls.

The set scores were 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, and 25-22.

Under the guidance of captain Erin Sullivan, who led the team with 13 kills and 5 blocks, the Lady Hawks were able to finish business. Outside hitter Brenna Manko helped out with nine kills, libero Veronica Johns with five aces, and setter Emma Puzausky with three blocks on her own.

This now makes the Lady Hawks’ record 4-3 overall, 3-2 in section, and 1-1 in non-section.

Unfortunately, the JV had to accept their first loss of the season from the Big Macs. They won the first set but then let the next two sets slip away. They are now 6-1, still an impressive record, and one to be proud of.

The girls return home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to close out the first half of section play against the Baldwin Highlanders. Hope to see everyone then!

Ra Ra Hawks!
