Lady Hawks improve to .500 with big section win
And the Black Hawks are back on top! The girls’ varsity volleyball team beat the Mount Lebanon Blue Devils on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The girls won 3-1 at home for Spirit Night in this section match.
The Blue Devils barely took away the first, getting by with a score of 25-22. The Lady Hawks rallied back to take the next three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 28-26.
The match was fairly even all the way through. The Black Hawks were ahead in the last three sets, but unforced errors opened the door for a possible Blue Devil comeback. Junior Brenna Manko prevented this and helped the Black Hawks prevail with her 19 kills. Senior Erin Sullivan had 10 kills, and senior Stephanie Kazalas followed with nine.
Mount Lebanon mixed up their offensive attacks, keeping the Lady Hawks on their toes. They had five players with seven or more kills, but that wasn’t enough to derail Bethel Park’s defense. The Hawks gave this right back to them and forced the Blue Devils to stay neutral, especially when junior defensive specialist Jaclyn Kogler killed the ball in the midst of the third set. Jaclyn’s kill helped the team finish out the set and eventually the match.
The win against Mt. Lebanon now brings the Black Hawks’ record back to .500, standing at 3-3 overall, 2-2 in the section, and 1-1 in non-section.
The JV team remains untouchable as they won 2-0. They are now 6-0 and have double the amount of wins that they had all of last season! Congrats, girls, and keep up the hard work!
The Black Hawks take on Canon-McMillan next on Thursday, Sept. 21 in another section matchup. This game is away, but the girls return home on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to face the Baldwin Highlanders.
Hey, Hawk fans! Thank you for coming out to Spirit Night and hope you all had fun (we know we did)! We all hope to see back in the Nest for Tuesday’s game!
Go Hawks!
