Girls’ volleyball accepts their first loss

The girls’ varsity volleyball team fell 0-3 to Peters Township Tuesday, Sept. 12. This now gives them a 1-1 section record and a 2-1 record overall.

“We are viewing our first loss of the season as a learning opportunity. We still have things to work on that will move us towards our end goal,” commented co-captain Stephanie Kazalas. “All I can say is that we are looking forward to our rematch against Peters even more now.”

That rematch will come on Thursday, Oct. 5 in Indian territory, but in the meantime, the Lady Hawks will be focused on their next match, which is at home Thursday against section rival Upper St. Clair. Both Peters and USC also have at least one section loss.

Even though the Lady Hawks didn’t get the ending they hoped for, they still put up a fight with set scores of 22-25, 14-25, and 21-25. Some rotation changes were made going into the third, but it was not enough to shake the Indians. Despite the outcome of the game, several players still put up impressive numbers. Brenna Manko led the team in kills again (8) followed by both middle hitters Jenna Kwiatkoski (6) and Erin Sullivan (6). This time, senior libero Veronica Johns tallied up the most aces (4).

Congrats to the JV team on their still perfect 3-0 record! Hope to see everyone at the game Thursday! Ra ra Hawks!
