Girls varsity cross country gets the gold at Gateway
On Saturday, Sept. 5, the girls varsity cross country team swiped first place at the Gateway Invitational.
Bethel Park managed to score an impressive 59 points in a field of 13 teams; they were two points ahead of Riverview and 31 points ahead of the third place team, Norwin.
This is the third year in a row that the girls won the Gateway Invitational.
Coach Staranko said, “It was a hard course and it was hot, but overall I think the girls did very well.”
Individually, the Lady Hawks had four in the top 20. The top five runners from Bethel included: Dani Hinish, Karissa Coffield, Claire Makowski, Megan Fedkoe, and Avery Hill.
Claire Makowski, one of the girls captains, said, “I think our team will do very well this year, and we have a good chance of making it to states.”
More recently, the girls finished seventh overall and fifth in the WPIAL at the Red, White, and Blue Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12.
