After dream run, BP loses heart-breaker to Shaler in WPIAL Consolation Game
BP went into the WPIAL Consolation Game on Tuesday, May 27 at Ross Memorial Park after a dream run in the playoffs.
The Black Hawks got to the semifinals before losing to Norwin. They then faced Shaler for third place and a trip to the state championships. However, BP could not pull out the victory. They lost 6-3.
Sam Ireland batted in two runs with his double, and Shaler beat BP, 6-3.
Shaler (18-5) opened the scoring early with two runs in the bottom of the second inning against BP pitcher Corey Augenstein (5-2).
BP (13-9) responded quickly, scoring two runs in the top of the third.
The game then remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when Shaler scored four runs. BP could not get a comeback, as they only managed to score one run in the top of the sixth.
For Shaler, pitcher Jake Potock (1-1) earned the win. Andrew Mueller had a two-run RBI hit to extend the lead.
Augenstein got the loss for BP on the mound. On the offensive end, Jon Scarsella had an RBI triple.
Shaler moves on the state tournament alongside champion Central Catholic and runner-up Fox Chapel. BP’s season is over.
