Hawks continue march towards the playoffs
The Hawks entered tonight’s section battle on a roll. They were riding an 11-game win streak, and were looking to build on it heading into the playoffs.
Bethel Park, and all of the other Section 4 teams in the WPIAL were honoring Joey Fabus, and raising awareness for DIPG by wearing special warm-up jerseys. Additionally, they were selling t-shirts, and held a moment of silence before the start of the game.
It was senior night for the Hawks as they recognized Monica Locke, Christina Didiano, Paige Kochka-Puskar, Kaitlyn Chess, and Mia Mattes for their time in a Hawk’s uniform.
The Hawks got off to a fast start and seemed to be hitting everything from the floor. Junior Shannon Conley was on her game, doing everything from driving to the hoop to hitting shots outside.
Bethel Park carried a 32-16 lead into halftime behind Conley’s 15 points in the first half.
The Lady Macs gained some ground in the third quarter, narrowing the Hawks lead down to 42-34. Lady Macs sophomore Cheyenne Trest, had 13 points heading into fourth.
The Lady Macs continued to cut the lead as they narrowed it down to five at one point in the middle of the fourth quarter.
The Hawks hit their free throws at the end and prevailed 58-44. Conley continued her onslaught and finished with 24 points, while sophomore Justina Mascaro finished with 17 points.
The Hawks wrap up their regular season against Baldwin on Thursday night, and then participate in the Cancer Awareness Classic over the weekend before heading into the playoffs.
