Pens’ Maatta diagnosed with tumor
There has been a huge scare for Olli Maatta. The rookie defenseman on the Penguins has been diagnosed with a tumor in his thyroid, which is in his neck. Luckily the tumor, which has an 85% chance of becoming cancerous, has been detected early, thus making it possible to prevent the cancer and remove the tumor.
According to NHL.com, Maatta is cleared to play until his surgery, which will keep him out for four weeks. Also according to NHL.com, Maatta said in an interview, “Anything hasn’t really changed. I haven’t really been that worried. I’ve been talking to the doctor a lot, the trainers, and trying to find out everything I can about the cancer, but you know what? I know I’m going to be fine and I haven’t been that worried about it because I know we have a great medical staff here and they’re going to take care of me.”
Although this is worrying, he seems to be fine and is not too worried. Penguins fans know he has a bright future and hope he recovers soon and gets back to the ice.
