Ben Roethlisberger is putting together a Hall of Fame career
With Roethlisberger’s 522 passing yards in the Steelers 51-34 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, he became the first player in NFL history to record two 500-yard passing games. He set Steelers team records for passing yards, touchdown passes, and pass completions in the victory.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano said to ESPN, “I said earlier he is a first ballot Hall of Famer in my opinion. He’s unbelievably accurate. He’s big. He’s strong, he makes all the throws. You have to be able to get him on the ground.”
Roethlisberger joined Hall of Fame quarterbacks Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady as the only four starting quarterbacks to record 100 victories within their first 150 NFL starts.
Roethlisberger was a 2004 draft pick out of Miami University (OH), taken 11th overall in the first round by the Steelers.
He completed his rookie season with a 13-0 record, the most regular season wins by a rookie quarterback.
Roethlisberger has led the Steelers to two Super Bowl victories following the 2005 and 2008 seasons, the first making him the youngest starting quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl. He took them to a third Super Bowl following the 2010 season.
Roethlisberger has said in the past,”I know I probably will never win the league MVP. That is not why I play the game. I try to win football games and championships.”
Roethlisberger has had some off the field issues in the past that have clouded his reputation, but his career statistics and accomplishments on the field are propelling him towards a future reservation in the NFL’s Hall of Fame.
