As many of you probably don’t know, one of Bethel’s V3 inline hockey teams is playing for the championship.
The best of three series began March 9, pitting coach Mark Kimes’ team against Deer Lakes.
After a slow start to the season, they finished 7-2-1 in their last 10 games to clinch the #1 seed in the playoffs.
The team is led by senior captain Mitch Fish and senior forward Kevin Krieger, both of whom have 23 points.
They faced #8 seed Baldwin in the first round of the playoffs beating them 5-0. Freshman goalie Marcus Miller had a shutout and senior forward Kevin Krieger had 2 goals and an assist.
In the second round of the playoffs, Bethel took on #4 seed Seneca Valley in a best of 3 series. As it turns out, they did not even need the third game, was they swept Seneca Valley.
They won the first game 7-4, led by sophomores Josh Kimes who had 2 goals and 2 assists and Steven Harrington who had a goal and 2 assists. Kevin Krieger also chipped in offensively with another 2 goal performance. The 2nd game was won 5-1, led by 2 goals from Josh Kimes and Kevin Krieger.
Earlier in the season, Bethel played Deer Lakes, coming away with a 6-3 victory getting 3 goals an an assist from Kevin Krieger.
They won game #1 of the series 6-4 after being down 3-1 after the 1st period. However they turned it around outscoring Deer Lakes 5-1 in the last two periods. Junior Nate Robins scored the game winner and the final goal.
