Most people associate March with the end of winter, spring training baseball, and March Madness. Then, there are those few who associate March with the Penguin Cup playoffs.
The Penguin Cup playoffs are high school hockey’s finest. Just like March Madness, any team has a legitimate shot to travel down to Consol Energy Center and hoist the beloved Penguin Cup. Bethel Park looks to just do that.
The Black Hawks (17-3-0) are coming in with the number one seed in the tournament after winning the Section-1 crown.
After a slow start to the season, Bethel Park has finally found that right tune and ended the season on a 4-game winning streak, getting hot at the right time of the year.
Bethel Park will be sticking with the recipe that got them where they are today and got them the 2012 Penguin Cup, defense and blonde hair.
Bethel Park has always been a good defensive squad backed with good goaltending.
Senior Zach Davis, has been stellar this season posting a 12-1 record in 17 GP, 1.92 GA, and a .900% SV. Davis has and will always keep the Black Hawks in games.
Then there’s the hair.
Bethel Park has decided to dye their hair bleach blonde, similar to rapper Eminem did in his Slim Shady days. Some of the players hair will give you a chuckle or two. They hope this will bring success just like it did in 2012.
But what makes Bethel Park a scary opposition is that anyone can score.
You have the usually suspects in Chris Siak, Jake Worcester, and Derek Lesnak. But guys like Nick Konyk, Spencer Bawcom, and Jake Salak can light the lamp anytime as well.
The depth is pretty remarkable for this team and will be the x-factor for their success.
The Black Hawks will play on Wednesday, March 5 at 8:30 PM, at the Bladerunners in Bethel Park. Opponent is TBD.
Bethel Park is on a mission to get to Consol and they don’t care who’s in their way.
