With the recent cold weather and snow delays, some of the athletes’ scheduled events were postponed and/or cancelled. This was common for the wrestling team whose matches got delayed twice, one for Upper Saint Clair and the other match against, Peters Township.
Now the wrestlers, along with a dual tournament this Saturday at South Side, have two wrestling matches in two consecutive days: Peters Township on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and Mount Lebanon on Wednesday, Jan. 15. These are two very important section matches for the wrestlers and will determine the seeding for the Section tournament later in the year.
Along with the two matches on the 14th and 15th, the wrestlers will also have an individual tournament on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18. This tournament is called the Allegheny County Tournament and is hosted at Fox Chapel High School. The County Tournament is one of the toughest tournaments in the Bethel Park wrestling schedule. It is an individual tournament, and the wrestlers hope to finish with Champion T-Shirts.
Along with these tough wrestling matches and dual meets, the real challenge for most of the wrestlers is making their certified weight for each match. The wrestlers now, due to the delays, have to make weight four times in a little over a week. Making weight for some wrestlers is said to be tougher than the actual match itself.
The wrestlers are going to have a tough week due to the snow delays and weather, but hopefully they can prevail with wins in all their matches.
